In a major boost to India’s deep-tech ecosystem, NVIDIA and Qualcomm Ventures have joined the India Deep Tech Alliance (IDTA) — a coalition of U.S. and Indian investors committed to nurturing India’s next generation of technology-driven startups. With their inclusion, total commitments under the alliance have now surpassed $1 billion, marking one of the most significant funding collaborations in the country’s emerging innovation landscape.
Under the partnership, NVIDIA will serve as a strategic technical advisor, bringing its global expertise in AI, computing, and scalable infrastructure to guide startups within the alliance. Qualcomm Ventures, meanwhile, contributes both capital and deep industry experience, complementing the participation of six major Indian venture firms that have already pledged $850 million to support high-impact ventures.
The formation of the IDTA aligns closely with the Indian government’s newly launched ₹1 trillion Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) scheme, aimed at accelerating breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, robotics, space technology, and semiconductors. Together, the alliance and the RDI initiative signal a powerful public-private push toward building a resilient deep-tech ecosystem capable of driving long-term national innovation.
“This is, in a way, the most seminal moment where the Indian government’s action will drive creation and the formation of many of these deep tech companies,” said Sriram Viswanathan, Founding Managing Partner of Celesta Capital and a founding member of the IDTA. He noted that India is at a “turning point” in its entrepreneurial journey, with deep tech and long-term R&D increasingly at the core of its startup evolution.
Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director for NVIDIA South Asia, said the company’s participation will provide startups with technical guidance, training, and access to scalable computing resources, helping them innovate and grow faster.
Rama Bethmangalkar, Managing Director of Qualcomm Ventures India, emphasized that the company’s role goes beyond investment. “If you are like-minded and other VCs have allocated certain portion of their resources, dollars, time, and network, it helps each other and collectively to work with the government,” he said, underlining the collaborative nature of the initiative.
With this alliance, the IDTA is poised to reshape India’s deep-tech landscape, drawing global attention and fostering the next wave of science- and technology-driven enterprises emerging from India.
