Google has reportedly instructed suppliers to prepare for all Pixel smartphones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds to be manufactured outside China beginning in 2027, extending a supply-chain diversification programme that has already established India and Vietnam as important production locations. The plan covers a wider portion of Google’s hardware portfolio than its earlier moves, which initially focused on shifting selected Pixel assembly and new-product development away from China.
The company is also reported to be targeting an 8% to 10% increase in Pixel smartphone shipments during 2026, after shipping approximately 12 million units in 2025. India is positioned to absorb part of the expanded production because Google already has two manufacturing channels in the country. Foxconn began producing Pixel devices in India in 2024, while Dixon Technologies’ subsidiary Padget Electronics subsequently started manufacturing the phones in partnership with Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Compal Electronics.
Dixon formally announced the arrangement in November 2024, identifying Google Information Services India as the designated customer and its Noida facility as the production location. The partnership gave Google access to an Indian electronics manufacturing services company with existing operations across mobile phones, consumer electronics and components. Google had initially announced its intention to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India in October 2023, starting with the Pixel 8, and the first locally made units began shipping in August 2024.
The latest reported plan does not mean that Google’s entire Pixel supply chain will move to India. Vietnam has become another major location for Pixel manufacturing and product-development work, including the new-product introduction process used to establish production methods for new devices. India’s role has so far centred substantially on assembly, although Google has held discussions with Indian suppliers about producing newer models and export-oriented handsets.
Moving final production does not remove Chinese components from the Pixel supply chain. Smartphones rely on displays, camera modules, mechanical parts, printed circuit boards and other components drawn from regional manufacturing networks. Google’s reported target is therefore a geographic rebalancing of finished-device production rather than complete separation from China’s electronics component base.
The plan places Google alongside other global device companies expanding Indian manufacturing capacity. India approved a manufacturing joint venture between Vivo and Dixon in July, while Apple’s local expansion continues through suppliers including Foxconn and Tata Electronics. Dixon led India’s electronics manufacturing services market with a 19% production share in 2025, supported by orders from multiple global handset brands.
