Karnataka has introduced KEO, a locally built, low-cost AI-ready personal computer designed to expand digital access across the state. Set to be unveiled by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, the device delivers full-scale computing through an open-source RISC-V processor, a Linux-based operating system, essential connectivity options, and an on-device AI core. It also features BUDDH, an AI agent trained on the Karnataka DSERT syllabus, enabling learning support even in low-connectivity environments.
Minister for Electronics, IT and BT Priyank M Kharge described KEO as an inclusion-focused initiative, saying it represents Karnataka’s “practical answer to the digital divide by making mass computing affordable and accessible.” Sharath Bache Gowda, Chairman of KEONICS, added that using an open-source RISC-V stack reinforces the state’s commitment to building adaptable, locally relevant computing solutions. Attendees at the Bengaluru Tech Summit will have the opportunity to explore the device and see how it supports AI-enabled education and digital access.
KEO is expected to be rolled out across schools, universities, government departments and homes, opening new opportunities for digital learning, skill development and entrepreneurship. As Karnataka promotes decentralised technology growth across districts, the device is positioned as a critical step toward providing equitable digital access to every citizen.
