Kin Health has secured $9 million in seed funding to build an AI-powered notetaking platform designed specifically for patients. The app works similarly to a meeting transcription tool, allowing users to record doctor appointments and receive AI-generated summaries that include key discussion points, treatment instructions, and recommended next steps.
The platform also enables patients to prepare questions before appointments and share visit summaries with family members or caregivers if they choose. Kin Health aims to simplify communication between doctors, patients, and caregivers by reducing confusion and helping patients better understand and follow medical advice.
The funding round was led by Maveron, with participation from Town Hall Ventures, Eniac Ventures, and more than 30 physicians. The startup was founded by physicians Arpan Parikh and Amit Parikh, along with Kyle Alwyn, who previously helped create the online prescription service HeyDoctor before it was acquired by GoodRx.
Kin Health stated that all patient data is encrypted and summaries are private by default. Since the app is patient-facing rather than provider-facing, it is not officially HIPAA-certified, though the company says it follows similar privacy standards.
The company plans to keep the core product free while eventually generating revenue through healthcare referrals and related services. Looking ahead, Kin Health also intends to integrate electronic health records into the platform to create a more connected patient experience.
