Meta has acquired Conductor, an emerging AI-powered coding startup, in a strategic move aimed at strengthening its capabilities in AI-assisted software development. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Established in 2024, Conductor focuses on building agentic development environments that enable software engineers to coordinate multiple AI agents across different stages of a project. Its platform supports deployment across cloud infrastructure, local environments, and mobile devices, allowing developers to manage parallel coding tasks through coordinated AI workflows.
Rather than developing proprietary AI models, Conductor integrates established coding agents and tools, including Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode. This approach enables engineering teams to run multiple AI-powered instances simultaneously, potentially improving development efficiency and accelerating software delivery.
The acquisition adds to Meta’s broader efforts to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem. The company has also pursued opportunities in the AI agent space, including its acquisition of Moltbook. However, its proposed $2 billion acquisition of AI startup Manus did not proceed following regulatory intervention by Chinese authorities over national security concerns.
Conductor’s technology could provide Meta with an opportunity to extend its AI ambitions into enterprise software engineering and developer productivity. However, integrating third-party AI coding systems, addressing enterprise security requirements, and establishing reliability at scale will remain important considerations as the company explores this space.
The development underscores the growing industry momentum behind Agentic AI, with technology companies increasingly looking beyond conversational AI towards autonomous, multi-agent systems capable of executing complex workflows.
