Tata-owned BigBasket has named Amit Nanda as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at one of India’s leading online grocery and quick commerce platforms. Nanda succeeds co-founder Hari Menon, who is stepping down from the top role after leading the company for 14 years.
Nanda joins BigBasket from Amazon, where he most recently served as Director of Selling Partner Services. During his more than 11-year tenure at the e-commerce giant, he held key leadership roles and gained extensive experience across online retail and consumer-focused businesses.
The appointment comes as BigBasket prepares for its next phase of growth in India’s increasingly competitive quick commerce and online grocery market.
Reflecting on the transition, Hari Menon said, “Having built BigBasket from its inception to its current position as one of India’s most trusted consumer platforms, I am delighted to welcome Amit as CEO.” He added that Nanda’s proven track record across the e-commerce and consumer sectors makes him well suited to lead the company into its next chapter.
Sharing his views on the new role, Nanda said he has deep admiration for what Hari Menon and the BigBasket team have created over the years, particularly the company’s strong portfolio of private-label brands. He also expressed enthusiasm about working closely with the leadership team to capitalize on future growth opportunities.
BigBasket currently serves more than 25 million customers across India, offers over 30,000 products, and operates more than 900 dark stores in over 60 cities. The company has expanded its footprint significantly as consumer demand for faster and more convenient delivery services continues to rise.
The leadership change takes place at a crucial time for the company as competition intensifies in the quick commerce sector, with major players investing heavily in technology, logistics, and customer experience.
With Amit Nanda taking over as CEO, BigBasket is set to continue building on the foundation established under Hari Menon’s leadership while pursuing further expansion in India’s fast-growing digital commerce market.
