On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is poised for major innovations in technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), a focus on local manufacturing, and the creation of digital public infrastructure (DPI) for the world in the near future.
The digital revolution, driven by the unified payments interface (UPI) and QR-code-based payments, has become a significant tool in poverty eradication and demonstrating the transformative potential of DPIs like DigiLocker and Aadhaar across India.
In a conversation with Sanjay Pugalia, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of AMG Media Network, PM Modi said, “We have the biggest talent pool of youth creating innovative solutions. In AI, India will soon lead the world.” He also emphasized that affordable data has enabled India to develop world-class solutions for other countries.
“The cost of data in India is very cheap compared to the rest of the world. This has led to a digital revolution that has greatly benefited the poor. Additionally, over 500,000 common service centres (CSCs) have provided crucial support to millions of people,” PM Modi noted.
From electric vehicles to a thriving startup ecosystem, and from mobile to automobile manufacturing, India is making significant strides towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with a projected GDP of USD 5 trillion in the coming years. The country aims to reach around USD 300 billion in electronics production by FY26.
Highlighting advancements in ‘Made in India’ technology, PM Modi mentioned the launch of ‘Hanooman AI,’ a new AI tool designed to compete with ChatGPT and Google Gemini AI. Introduced by 3AI Holding and Seetha Mahalaxmi Healthcare (SML) in February 2024, Hanooman AI is based on the Indian Large Language Model (LLM) and supports 12 Indian regional languages and 98 global languages, offering a robust alternative in the AI landscape.
