Intel has appointed Indian-origin executive Sachin Katti as its new Chief Technology and AI Officer, marking a significant leadership restructuring under CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Katti, who previously led Intel’s networking and edge computing division, will now oversee the company’s AI strategy, product roadmap, Intel Labs, and relationships with startups and developer communities.
This move comes as Intel aims to revitalize its position in the semiconductor industry after years of manufacturing and product challenges. CEO Lip-Bu Tan emphasized the need for a leaner, engineering-focused organization.
Katti’s expanded role includes leading Intel Labs, which is responsible for fundamental and applied research, including process technologies. He succeeds Greg Lavender, who is retiring from Intel. In addition to his responsibilities at Intel, Katti is also a professor at Stanford University.
As part of the leadership overhaul, Tan has streamlined Intel’s management structure, allowing major chip divisions—such as data center, AI, and PC chips—to report directly to him. This restructuring aims to foster closer collaboration between engineering teams and executive leadership. Long-time technical leaders Rob Bruckner, Mike Hurley, and Lisa Pearce now have direct lines to the CEO.
Intel is also seeking a new head of government affairs, who will report directly to Tan, highlighting the strategic importance of global regulatory relationships amid rising geopolitical tensions.
These changes reflect Intel’s renewed focus on innovation and its commitment to regaining a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving semiconductor landscape.
