Mumbai, Kotak Mahindra Bank has appointed Shilpa Mahesh Konkar (Jabde) as its Data Protection Officer, strengthening the bank’s leadership in data privacy, regulatory compliance and information governance.
In her new role, Konkar will lead the bank’s data protection and privacy programme. Her responsibilities will include strengthening privacy governance, overseeing compliance with evolving data-protection regulations and embedding privacy principles across the bank’s technology platforms, products and business processes.
She will also support the development of frameworks covering personal-data processing, consent management, data retention, privacy risk assessments and the protection of customer information. Her appointment comes as financial institutions prepare their technology systems, internal controls and operational processes for compliance with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
Konkar joins Kotak Mahindra Bank from the State Bank of India, where she served as General Manager and Data Protection Officer. At SBI, she contributed to the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection framework across the bank’s extensive technology and operational ecosystem.
She brings extensive experience across data privacy, cybersecurity, information technology governance, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management. Her professional credentials include Certified Information Privacy Manager, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control and Certified Ethical Hacker.
Konkar has also participated in industry discussions concerning data sovereignty, consent management, cloud adoption in the banking sector and privacy-by-design principles. Her experience in implementing data-protection controls within a large financial institution positions her to support Kotak Mahindra Bank’s privacy and digital-trust priorities.
As Data Protection Officer, she will play a central role in ensuring that the bank’s collection, processing, storage and use of personal information are aligned with applicable regulatory requirements. She is also expected to work with technology, legal, compliance, cybersecurity and business teams to integrate privacy safeguards across the data lifecycle.
