Larsen & Toubro is planning investments exceeding Rs 4,500 crore in West Bengal as the company expands its presence across technology infrastructure, software development, and data centre operations in the state.
According to reports, L&T Chairman S N Subrahmanyan is expected to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in July to discuss the company’s upcoming investment proposals and expansion plans.
A major portion of the investment is linked to the company’s software park project at Silicon Valley in New Town, Kolkata. The first phase of the development is nearing completion, while two additional phases are planned as part of the broader expansion strategy.
Dip Kishore Sen, adviser to the L&T Chairman and Managing Director, stated that the total investment in the software park project is expected to reach approximately Rs 2,500 crore and could generate around 25,000 employment opportunities upon completion.
The software park expansion reflects growing demand for technology infrastructure, digital services, enterprise technology operations, and IT-enabled business ecosystems as enterprises continue accelerating digital transformation initiatives across India.
In addition to the software park project, L&T is also planning to establish a tier-III data centre in Kolkata with a planned capacity of 13MW. The proposed facility is expected to involve an investment of nearly Rs 2,000 crore.
The data centre investment comes amid rapidly rising demand for cloud infrastructure, AI workloads, enterprise digital services, and hyperscale computing capacity across India. Companies across sectors are increasingly investing in advanced data infrastructure to support AI adoption, cloud migration, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and large-scale digital operations.
West Bengal has been actively positioning itself as an emerging destination for technology infrastructure, IT parks, digital services, and data centre investments as state governments across India compete to attract technology-led industrial development and employment generation.
Larsen & Toubro continues to expand its presence across infrastructure, engineering, digital transformation, technology services, smart infrastructure, and data centre ecosystems as enterprise demand for digital infrastructure and AI-ready computing capacity accelerates.
