India — Merck Group has inaugurated its new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru, strengthening the company’s global digital, technology, and enterprise operations footprint in India as multinational corporations continue expanding strategic capability centres across the country.
Located in Electronic City, the new 17,000 square metre campus brings together nearly 3,300 professionals across data, digital, process, and technology functions under a unified operational hub.
The integrated facility houses Merck’s largest concentration of Digital Enterprise Solutions capabilities globally, with cross-functional teams supporting enterprise-wide initiatives spanning research and development, manufacturing, supply chain operations, commercial systems, and enterprise technology services across multiple international markets.
The company said the new campus has been designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen operational agility, and enhance collaboration between technology, process, and business teams.
“The Merck Global Capability Centre is much more than an operational hub, it is a strategic engine for our digital enterprise. By bringing data, technology and process teams under one roof here, we are strengthening the foundation needed to scale innovation faster, improve agility and deliver greater results,” said Alessandro De Luca, Head of Digital Enterprise Solutions and Group CIO at Merck.
The Bengaluru campus includes collaborative workspaces, innovation labs, technology development areas, and dedicated neurodiversity zones as part of the company’s broader workplace inclusion and employee experience initiatives.
The launch highlights India’s growing position as a global hub for capability centres, digital engineering, enterprise technology operations, AI, analytics, and business transformation services. Global companies across sectors including healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, financial services, and technology are increasingly expanding GCC investments in India to access large-scale digital talent and innovation capabilities.
Industry experts note that GCCs are evolving beyond traditional back-office operations into strategic centres focused on AI, cloud computing, enterprise platforms, automation, cybersecurity, data engineering, and product innovation.
Merck’s expanded Bengaluru presence also reflects the increasing role India plays within the company’s global operations network. India has now become Merck’s fourth-largest workforce hub after Germany, the United States, and China.
The development builds on Merck’s nearly six decades of operations in India, where the company continues to expand its presence across healthcare, life sciences, electronics, and digital technology domains.
Merck Group is a global science and technology company headquartered in Germany, operating across healthcare, life science, and electronics businesses.
