Meta is reportedly expanding its wearable technology lineup with five new products, including a high-end pair of smart glasses that could surpass the $1,000 mark. Following the success of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, the company is now working on a new model, codenamed Hypernova, which is expected to introduce advanced features and a built-in display.
According to reports, Hypernova will incorporate a small screen at the bottom of the right lens, displaying notifications, captured photos, and even offering real-time translation assistance. A recent Bloomberg report also suggests that the smart glasses will support apps and feature a home screen with horizontally arranged icons, resembling the Meta Quest interface.
While retaining the design elements of the current Ray-Ban smart glasses, Hypernova will feature a more advanced camera and include all existing functions of the Wayfarer-style Ray-Ban Meta glasses. However, it will continue to rely on the Meta View smartphone app for certain functionalities.
On the software side, the smart glasses are expected to run on a highly customized version of Android. However, it remains uncertain whether they will support an app store. Additionally, Meta is reportedly developing a neural wristband controller, codenamed Ceres, which will allow users to interact with the glasses using hand gestures, such as rotating the wrist to scroll or pinching fingers to select items.
Due to its enhanced hardware and built-in display, Hypernova is projected to be priced between $1,300 and $1,400, making it one of the most premium offerings in Meta’s wearable lineup.
