Offering a glimpse into its capabilities, the group, comprising Reliance and eight affiliated universities, showcased scenarios where individuals from diverse backgrounds interacted with the AI model, including a motorcycle mechanic in Tamil, a banker in Hindi, and a developer writing code.
Named Hanooman, the model epitomizes India’s pursuit of groundbreaking AI advancements with the potential to reshape industries. Operating across 11 local languages, it targets key sectors including healthcare, governance, financial services, and education. Developed in partnership with Indian Institute of Technology universities, Hanooman receives backing from Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Additionally, startups like Sarvam and Krutrim, supported by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vinod Khosla’s fund respectively, are actively engaged in building open-sourced AI models tailored for India.
Hanooman aims to provide users with speech-to-text functionalities, enhancing its user-friendliness. Reliance Jio plans to develop tailored models for specific purposes, further optimizing its utility. Additionally, Reliance is actively developing Jio Brain, a platform leveraging AI capabilities across its extensive network of approximately 450 million subscribers.
