SBI Mutual Fund Raises Swiggy Stake Above 5% After Rs 300 Crore Share Purchase

SBI Mutual Fund has increased its stake in food delivery and quick commerce company Swiggy to above 5% after purchasing an additional 1.18 crore shares through a market transaction on September 29, 2026.

The acquisition is valued at around Rs 300 crore based on Swiggy’s closing share price of Rs 253.70 on September 29. However, the regulatory filing does not disclose the actual price at which SBI Mutual Fund acquired the shares.

According to the regulatory filing, SBI Mutual Fund, through its various schemes, acquired 1,18,38,465 shares of Swiggy. The purchase represents a 0.4289% stake in the company.

Before the transaction, SBI Mutual Fund held 12.97 crore shares in Swiggy, representing a 4.70% stake. Following the purchase, its total holding increased to 14.15 crore shares, taking its stake to 5.12%.

The acquisition took SBI Mutual Fund’s holding above the 5% threshold, triggering a disclosure under Regulation 29(1) of the SEBI Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers Regulations.

SBI Funds Management submitted the disclosure to Swiggy, the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE on September 30, 2026.

The transaction was carried out through the open market, with the additional shares taking SBI Mutual Fund’s overall holding above the regulatory disclosure threshold.

The increase in the stake comes as Swiggy continues to operate across food delivery and quick commerce through its core Swiggy platform and Instamart business.

Following the purchase, SBI Mutual Fund holds 14.15 crore shares of Swiggy, representing a 5.12% stake, compared with 12.97 crore shares and a 4.70% stake before the transaction.

The latest acquisition therefore increases SBI Mutual Fund’s disclosed ownership in Swiggy by 0.4289 percentage points and places the asset manager above the 5% threshold covered by the applicable SEBI disclosure requirements.

The transaction also adds to institutional participation in Swiggy as the company continues to operate in India’s competitive food delivery and quick commerce markets.
