Jindal Power Limited has appointed Sudip Nag as Managing Director, marking his move into the company’s top executive leadership role in the power sector.
Nag brings 38 years of experience across the power industry, with a professional background covering power generation, operations and management. His career has included leadership responsibilities across major power-generation organisations and large thermal power operations.
Before joining Jindal Power, Nag was associated with Adani Power, where he held a senior operations leadership position. Public power-sector records identify him as Chief Operating Officer (O&M) at Adani Power, with responsibilities connected to the company’s thermal-generation operations.
His professional profile also reflects a long association with the Indian power sector. Earlier, Nag held leadership responsibilities at NTPC, including the position of Regional Executive Director (East-I). His experience at NTPC included senior responsibilities across its thermal power-generation operations and regional activities.
Nag’s career has therefore spanned both public- and private-sector power organisations, giving him experience across large-scale generation assets, operations and power-sector management. His background includes work connected with thermal power plants and the operational requirements involved in running large generation facilities.
At Jindal Power, Nag will take charge as Managing Director as the company continues to operate and expand its power-generation portfolio. Jindal Power describes itself as an independent power producer with operations in South Asia and Africa. The company currently operates more than 6000 MW of generation capacity across thermal plants, captive generation units and integrated power-and-mining projects, while also expanding its focus on renewable energy.
In India, Jindal Power operates 6000 MW of generation capacity across Haryana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Its portfolio includes the 3400 MW Tamnar power complex in Chhattisgarh, 1320 MW Jhajjar plant in Haryana, 600 MW Simhapuri facility in Andhra Pradesh, 300 MW Shirpur plant in Maharashtra and 300 MW Bhadreshwar facility in Gujarat.
The company has also been focusing on operational efficiency and technology-led improvements across its power operations. Its current initiatives include AI-based plant monitoring, efficiency upgrades and hybrid thermal-solar integration as part of its broader approach to power generation and energy transition.
Nag’s appointment comes with extensive operational experience from the power-generation sector. His previous role at Adani Power involved operations and maintenance, while his earlier career at NTPC provided experience in managing large power-generation operations and regional responsibilities.
As Managing Director, Nag will now lead Jindal Power at a time when the company is operating a diversified generation portfolio while continuing to invest in efficiency, technology and renewable-energy capabilities.
His appointment adds a veteran power-sector professional to Jindal Power’s senior leadership, bringing four decades of industry experience across thermal generation, operations and power-sector management.
