Syed Mohammad Ali Naqvi has taken on a new role as Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP), Group Head of IT and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at MCB Bank Limited.
Naqvi announced the move as he started his new position at MCB Bank, where he will lead the bank’s IT function as Group Head of IT and CIO.
He brings more than two decades of experience across digital transformation, banking technology, data and analytics, artificial intelligence, risk technology and technology-led business transformation. His professional experience spans banking and financial services organisations across the Middle East and Africa.
Before joining MCB Bank, Naqvi served as Chief Technology Officer at Raqami Islamic Digital Bank. In that role, he was responsible for technology leadership at the digital bank, with his experience covering areas such as technology strategy, digital channels, payments, APIs, cybersecurity, IT risk and technology governance.
His earlier career includes a significant tenure at Al Hilal Bank, where he worked on digital banking technology and transformation. Public professional profiles state that he was involved in the development of a fully digital Shariah-compliant banking proposition in the UAE, including cloud-based technology, data capabilities and digital banking systems.
Naqvi has also held technology and data leadership roles at Wipro. As General Manager and Regional Head of AI, Data & Insights, he managed AI and data business across the Middle East and worked with banks and large organisations on technology and AI adoption.
Earlier in his career, he held management positions with organisations including SAS Middle East, Oracle Middle East, Riyad Bank and Teradata. His professional background has covered digital banking strategy, artificial intelligence, data analytics, risk management and technology transformation.
Naqvi’s appointment comes as MCB Bank continues to have technology and digital banking as part of its broader business operations. MCB Bank’s official management information lists Naqvi as CIO / Group Head IT.
With his new responsibility, Naqvi will lead the bank’s IT function at the group level, bringing experience across banking technology, digital transformation, AI, data and enterprise technology. His previous work across conventional and digital banking environments adds to his experience in managing technology functions within financial services.
Naqvi holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering and has also completed certifications in project management and data warehousing. He has been associated with the CIO MENA community and has been recognised among the top 200 CIOs in successive years since 2020, according to his professional profile.
The move marks another step in Naqvi’s career in banking technology, taking his experience in digital banking, data, AI and technology transformation into a group-level CIO role at MCB Bank Limited.
