India — Space technology startup TakeMe2Space has partnered with QOSMIC to develop India’s first indigenous Optical Inter-Satellite Link (OISL) network, marking a significant step toward building sovereign space-based communication infrastructure and enabling near-real-time satellite intelligence processing directly in orbit.
The collaboration focuses on building next-generation satellite communication systems capable of processing and transferring data directly in orbit using laser-based optical links, reducing dependence on traditional ground station visibility windows and enabling significantly faster transmission of information to Earth.
Under the partnership, QOSMIC will lead the development of the core optical communication terminal, while TakeMe2Space will be responsible for designing the high-precision OISL gimbal system, satellite bus interconnects, and Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) hardware required to support accurate communication and satellite alignment.
The companies said the technology is designed to support in-orbit data processing and enable faster transmission of critical satellite intelligence for applications including precision agriculture, disaster response, environmental monitoring, climate analysis, and national security operations.
Commenting on the partnership, Ronak Kumar Samantray, Founder and CEO of TakeMe2Space, said, “Optical inter-satellite communications are a critical building block for the future of orbital infrastructure. This partnership will help build a sovereign communications backbone for the next generation of space-based applications.”
Industry experts believe optical inter-satellite communication systems could play a major role in the future of satellite constellations, Earth observation networks, defense systems, and AI-driven space infrastructure by enabling significantly higher bandwidth and lower latency compared to traditional radio-frequency communication systems.
The first indigenous optical communications terminal developed through the partnership is scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2027 as both companies work toward strengthening India’s capabilities in advanced satellite networking and next-generation orbital infrastructure.
The development comes as global investments in space-based communication systems, satellite constellations, and autonomous orbital infrastructure continue accelerating amid growing demand for real-time intelligence, AI-enabled satellite operations, and secure sovereign communication networks.
