Chinese robotics firm Unitree is once again in the spotlight with its latest announcement: a robot boxing event titled Unitree Iron Fist King: Awakening, which will feature its compact humanoid robot, G1. The company recently posted a teaser video on X (formerly Twitter), showcasing one G1 sparring with a human fighter before stepping into a match with another G1 unit.
This announcement comes just weeks after Unitree released a video of the G1 executing impressive martial arts-inspired maneuvers, including a 720-degree spin-kick targeting a baton. Although the G1’s performance hinted at growing agility, the robot’s reflexes, balance, and dodging ability still lag behind that of human athletes.
Standing at 4.33 feet tall, the Unitree G1 comes equipped with advanced features such as 3D LiDAR, a RealSense depth-sensing camera, and a noise-canceling microphone. It’s powered by a 9,000mAh battery and runs on an octa-core CPU. The robot also includes powered joints in its arms, legs, and torso, enhancing its mobility and interaction capabilities.
While Unitree has yet to confirm an exact date for the event, it is expected to take place within the next few weeks. The company hasn’t officially disclosed which robot models will participate, but there’s speculation that the more advanced H1 model—standing at nearly 6 feet tall—might also enter the ring.
The upcoming face-off is not only a tech demo but a glimpse into the evolving capabilities of humanoid robots in dynamic, real-time environments.
