Zomato Launches India’s First Large-Order, All-Electric Delivery Fleet; Rolls Back ‘Pure Veg’ Initiative

Zomato has launched India’s inaugural fleet for handling large orders, specifically tailored for events such as gatherings, parties, and group activities for up to 50 participants. The initiative was shared by CEO Deepinder Goyal on Twitter, mentioning that this new service will utilize an “all-electric fleet” instead of the previous method involving multiple standard delivery partners, which compromised the customer experience.

In a tweet, Deepinder Goyal expressed his enthusiasm: “Today, we are excited to introduce India’s first large order fleet, designed to handle all your large (group/party/event) orders with ease. This is an all electric fleet, designed specifically to serve orders for a gathering of up to 50 people.” He noted that this update aims to significantly improve how customers experience ordering large quantities on Zomato by addressing previous logistical challenges.

Goyal further explained that the electric vehicles are currently evolving, with ongoing enhancements like cooling compartments and temperature-controlled hot boxes to ensure the food is delivered in optimal condition.

Previously, Zomato attempted to cater to vegetarian customers with a ‘Pure Veg’ Fleet introduced in March. The fleet, which had delivery personnel in green uniforms to denote vegetarian deliveries, was withdrawn after significant public backlash, as confirmed by Goyal.
