TCS Splits AI.Cloud Business Into Two Distinct Verticals, Bets Big on AI and Cloud as Next Growth Engines

India’s largest IT services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is doubling down on its AI and cloud computing ambitions by restructuring its AI.Cloud business unit into two separate verticals: AI & Data, and Cloud. This strategic move comes as the company eyes exponential growth in both domains and aims to unlock untapped market opportunities globally.

The AI.Cloud unit, which was formed just two years ago, has been a high-performing business for TCS—outpacing the company’s average growth. But with artificial intelligence becoming a pervasive force across sectors, the Tata Group company believes the time is right to go all in.

“AI is getting more pervasive by the day and featuring in every conversation now,” said Siva Ganesan, who will now lead the newly carved-out AI & Data unit. “The volume and vibrancy of activity we are seeing in the AI and data space has grown manyfold in the last 12 months.”

Ganesan, who previously headed the unified AI.Cloud unit, emphasized that this transformation is about building a centralized nerve center for AI innovation within TCS. The new AI & Data vertical will act as a strategic hub, helping the company consolidate its AI offerings, advance research, and deliver end-to-end solutions across industries.

In parallel, Krishna Mohan, formerly deputy head of AI.Cloud, has been appointed as the new head of the Cloud business unit, which will focus on scaling cloud transformation services—an area with equally massive market potential.

Supporting this leadership shuffle, Ashok Krish will take over as the Global Head of AI, bringing deep experience in enterprise transformation, and Satish Byravan will step in as Global Head of Data, reinforcing the synergy between AI applications and data infrastructure.

The reorganization underscores TCS’s broader vision of creating domain-specific AI solutions that integrate seamlessly with enterprise data ecosystems. According to company officials, many organizations today lack the foundational data infrastructure to effectively deploy AI solutions. By bundling AI and data into one vertical, TCS aims to offer a combined proposition that accelerates time-to-value for clients.

To support the vertical’s aggressive growth plans, TCS is actively hiring AI specialists from the open market while also revamping internal training programs to upskill existing employees. This approach reflects a dual strategy of acquiring cutting-edge capabilities while nurturing homegrown talent.

“We believe the AI and cloud markets are still significantly underpenetrated,” said a senior TCS executive. “Splitting the AI.Cloud unit into two dedicated verticals allows us to focus more intensively on client needs, build specialized solutions, and move faster in a highly competitive global tech landscape.”

The shift comes at a time when enterprises worldwide are investing heavily in AI-driven transformation—from predictive analytics and generative AI to intelligent automation and cloud-native platforms. With global tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon also escalating their AI bets, TCS’s move is seen as a proactive measure to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving AI race.

By launching independent units for AI & Data and Cloud, TCS is sending a clear message: the future of enterprise IT lies at the intersection of intelligent systems and scalable infrastructure, and the company is committed to being a leading force in shaping that future.
