MediaTek has announced a strategic collaboration with automotive technology major DENSO to co-develop a custom automotive System-on-Chip (SoC) designed for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and in-vehicle cockpit applications. The partnership brings together DENSO’s deep expertise in automotive-grade safety, reliability, and vehicle integration with MediaTek’s strengths in power-efficient, high-performance SoCs and AI technologies derived from its Dimensity AX platform. Together, the companies aim to deliver a scalable, production-ready solution that meets the growing demands of next-generation assisted driving systems.
At the core of this collaboration is a shared focus on enabling safer, smarter, and more intelligent mobility. By combining MediaTek’s heterogeneous compute and AI acceleration capabilities with DENSO’s long-standing leadership in automotive system engineering, the custom SoC is being designed to address the complex requirements of global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. The platform is expected to support a wide range of ADAS and cockpit use cases, while ensuring compliance with stringent automotive safety and quality standards.
One of the key pillars of the joint effort is automotive-grade safety and compliance. The custom SoC is being developed to meet ISO 26262 functional safety requirements, targeting ASIL-B and ASIL-D levels. With AEC-Q100 qualification and support for automotive-standard system integration, the solution is intended to deliver high reliability across diverse vehicle environments and operating conditions.
Another major focus area is advanced AI compute and perception. MediaTek is contributing its best-in-class heterogeneous computing architecture, including dedicated AI and NPU accelerators, along with advanced image signal processing. These capabilities will enable sophisticated perception pipelines and multi-sensor fusion across cameras, radar, and lidar, optimized in close collaboration with DENSO’s domain expertise in ADAS systems.
The partnership also emphasizes faster design cycles and reduced time-to-market. By leveraging a portfolio of pre-validated automotive-grade IP, reference designs, safety work products, and toolchains aligned with ISO 26262 and AUTOSAR standards, the joint platform aims to accelerate development while improving overall system quality.
“Through this collaboration, we are bringing two industry leaders together to support the most demanding requirements of global automotive manufacturers and system integrators, exceeding benchmarks in safety, power efficiency, and AI-enabled perception to advance the future of assisted driving,” said Dr. Mike Chang, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Automotive Business at MediaTek. “We are rapidly growing our portfolio of leading-edge technologies to redefine the automotive experience for customers across the globe.”
With this initiative, MediaTek and DENSO are positioning themselves to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of intelligent mobility and accelerating the global adoption of advanced driver-assistance technologies.
