Uttar Pradesh Partners with AM Green Group to Build 1 GW Green AI Data Center in Greater Noida

Uttar Pradesh has announced a landmark move to position itself at the center of global AI infrastructure by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with AM Green Group to set up a 1 gigawatt (GW) data center in Greater Noida. The agreement, signed with InvestUP on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, represents one of the largest data center investments ever announced in India and signals the state’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for AI-driven computing.

The proposed facility is estimated to involve an investment of around $25 billion and will be developed in multiple phases. According to the project roadmap, the first tranche of capacity is expected to become operational by 2028, with the full 1 GW build-out targeted by 2030. Once completed, the data center will cater to global hyperscalers, large enterprises, frontier AI labs, and India’s sovereign AI programs, supporting compute-intensive workloads at scale.

A defining feature of the project is its focus on sustainability. The data center will be powered by 24/7 carbon-free energy through a combination of wind, solar, and pumped storage solutions. This approach aligns with global efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of AI infrastructure, while also strengthening India’s clean energy credentials. The initiative fits squarely within Uttar Pradesh’s broader goal of becoming India’s leading data center destination and complements the national Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Industry leaders from AM Green Group highlighted the strategic rationale behind the investment. “Today AI has become embedded in our daily lives – evolution of global AI ecosystem with intentionality, intelligence and adaptability will be a pivotal tool for current & future generations. Our entry into the AI full stack ecosystem is a natural extension of our technology first approach to our businesses and deliver integrated end-to-end solution stack for a multitude of industries.” said Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green Group.

Mahesh Kolli, President of AM Green, emphasized the sustainability-led design of the project. “By combining 1 GW of compute capacity with our 24/7 green power solutions, we are not just building a data center; we are creating a sustainable template for the future of global AI infrastructure with the support from State of Uttar Pradesh.”

For Uttar Pradesh, the partnership underscores its intent to attract large-scale, future-ready investments and play a significant role in the global AI value chain. If executed as planned, the project could place Greater Noida on the global map as a critical node in next-generation AI infrastructure.
