Chandan Arunachalam Elevated to Head of Marketing – Retail and S&S at Tata Steel

Chandan Arunachalam has been elevated to Head of Marketing – Retail and S&S at Tata Steel, effective February 2026. Based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, he will lead the marketing charter for Tata Steel’s Retail and Special Steel (S&S) businesses, with responsibility for shaping brand strategy, driving demand generation, strengthening channel effectiveness, and deepening engagement with distributors, dealers, and end customers across markets.

This elevation follows a fast-paced and high-impact career journey within Tata Steel, marked by cross-regional leadership and early responsibility. Most recently, Chandan served as Regional Sales Manager – South, where he was fast-track promoted to a head role at a notably young age. In this position, he led a steel business of approximately 0.2 million tonnes, valued at nearly $200 million, across South India. His tenure was defined by strong commercial outcomes driven through pricing discipline, channel sales execution, people leadership, and strategic negotiations.

Prior to his role in the South, Chandan held progressively senior sales leadership positions across the Western, Eastern, and North-Eastern regions. Across these assignments, he managed large dealer networks, supported retail expansion, executed targeted marketing initiatives, and consistently delivered improvements in market share and revenue performance. His experience spans both frontline execution and strategic market development across diverse geographies.

With deep exposure to sales, marketing, channel management, and business development, Chandan brings a balanced blend of strategic thinking and execution capability to his new mandate. His elevation reflects Tata Steel’s confidence in his leadership potential and his ability to scale businesses, build strong teams, and deliver sustained value across markets.
Announcing his new role, Chandan shared in a personal note:
“Tata Steel has given me many challenging assignments. After handling challenging assignments across India in East, West and finally as a people manager and RSM role in South, this new role fills me with excitement.”

Chandan’s association with Tata Steel began early in his career through the INSPIRE Program, where he interned in the Sales and Marketing function at the company’s marketing headquarters in Kolkata. Beyond his corporate roles, his earlier experiences include founding Magnanimous, a social development initiative, as well as internships with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and AIESEC in Chennai, contributing to a broad foundation across leadership, social impact, and professional development.
