Samsung SDS has secured the rights to distribute OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu, marking a significant step in expanding artificial intelligence adoption within the education sector. The agreement builds on the company’s earlier partnership with OpenAI and reflects a broader effort to bring advanced AI tools to academic institutions in South Korea and beyond.
ChatGPT Edu is designed specifically for educational use, offering capabilities such as writing assistance, coding support, data analysis, and customized chatbot creation. The platform also emphasizes privacy, ensuring that interactions from students and faculty are not used to train AI models. This feature is particularly important for institutions concerned about data security and compliance when integrating AI into learning environments.
As part of the rollout, Samsung SDS has already initiated a pilot program with the National Korea Broadcasting and Communications University. The proof-of-concept project is expected to reach around 90,000 users, including students, professors, and administrative staff. This large-scale implementation is aimed at testing how AI tools can enhance learning outcomes, streamline administrative tasks, and improve overall academic productivity.
The new agreement further strengthens Samsung SDS’s position as a key partner for OpenAI in South Korea. The company had previously become the first official reseller of ChatGPT Enterprise in the country in late 2025, securing multiple enterprise clients across industries. By extending its portfolio to include ChatGPT Edu, Samsung SDS is expanding its reach from corporate AI transformation into the education sector.
This move also aligns with the rapid growth of the AI-in-education market, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. As institutions increasingly adopt digital tools to enhance teaching and learning, partnerships like this highlight how global AI providers are working with local technology firms to ensure effective deployment, compliance, and scalability. Samsung SDS’s latest initiative underscores the growing role of AI in reshaping education systems and preparing institutions for a more technology-driven future.
