CBSE Says OnMark Portal Vulnerabilities Have Been Contained Following Security Concerns

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has stated that vulnerabilities identified in its OnMark digital evaluation platform have been contained after concerns were raised regarding the security of the system. The clarification follows claims made by a 19-year-old ethical hacker, Nisarga Adhikary, who alleged that he had gained access to portions of the board’s digital evaluation ecosystem.

The issue gained attention after Adhikary publicly detailed what he described as security weaknesses within the platform used for the assessment and evaluation process. According to his claims, the vulnerabilities exposed certain aspects of the digital infrastructure supporting examination-related activities.

CBSE has maintained that the identified vulnerabilities were promptly addressed and that the situation has been brought under control. The board emphasized that necessary corrective measures were implemented to strengthen system security and prevent potential misuse.

A significant aspect of the allegations involved the handling of student-related information. Adhikary claimed that personal data belonging to students was being processed through automation scripts developed by quality assurance engineers at COEMPT. According to his account, these scripts reportedly utilized Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence system as part of automated workflows associated with testing and quality assurance processes

The claims triggered concerns regarding data privacy, cybersecurity practices, and the use of artificial intelligence tools in systems handling sensitive educational information. The allegations also sparked discussions about the safeguards required when integrating AI-powered services into large-scale digital platforms.

The board stated that investigations were conducted after the concerns were brought to its attention and that measures were taken to mitigate any identified risks. CBSE further indicated that it remains committed to maintaining the security and integrity of its digital infrastructure, particularly systems that manage examination and student-related information.

The incident has highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity within educational institutions as more administrative and evaluation processes move online. Experts note that organizations handling large volumes of personal information must continuously assess vulnerabilities and update security mechanisms to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.

While the allegations have drawn significant attention, CBSE’s response indicates that the reported weaknesses have been addressed. The board has reiterated its focus on ensuring secure digital operations and safeguarding information processed through its examination and evaluation systems.

The development underscores the increasing scrutiny surrounding data protection, AI integration, and cybersecurity standards in educational technology platforms. As institutions continue to adopt digital tools and automated processes, ensuring robust security measures remains a critical priority for protecting student information and maintaining public trust.
