IIT Madras Supports India’s Cyber Commando Initiative with Advanced Cybersecurity Training for CISF Personnel

India — IIT Madras is supporting India’s Cyber Commandos initiative by providing advanced cybersecurity training to personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), strengthening the country’s efforts to build specialized cyber defense capabilities against evolving digital threats.

As part of the program, 35 CISF personnel are undergoing advanced cybersecurity training focused on artificial intelligence-driven security systems, digital forensics, cyber threat detection, incident response, cyber defense operations, and emerging cybersecurity technologies.

The initiative forms part of India’s larger Cyber Commandos mission, under which the government aims to develop a highly trained cybersecurity workforce capable of protecting critical infrastructure, government systems, digital assets, and national security networks from sophisticated cyberattacks.

IIT Madras, one of India’s leading engineering and technology institutions, has been actively contributing to research and innovation across cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital systems, and advanced computing technologies. The institute’s involvement reflects the increasing collaboration between academic institutions and national security agencies in strengthening India’s cyber resilience.

The specialized training program is designed to equip CISF personnel with practical expertise in identifying cyber threats, conducting digital investigations, monitoring vulnerabilities, and responding to cybersecurity incidents affecting critical infrastructure and digital platforms.

Industry experts note that cyber threats targeting financial systems, industrial infrastructure, government agencies, healthcare networks, and communication systems have become increasingly sophisticated due to the growing use of automation and AI-enabled attack methods. Governments worldwide are expanding investments in cybersecurity infrastructure, cyber defense training, and digital threat intelligence capabilities to strengthen national security preparedness.

The Cyber Commandos initiative highlights India’s broader focus on strengthening institutional cybersecurity capabilities as digital adoption accelerates across both public and private sectors. Critical sectors including banking, transportation, telecommunications, energy, and public administration are increasingly dependent on secure digital ecosystems and resilient cyber infrastructure.

Security analysts believe programs involving institutions such as IIT Madras and security agencies like CISF could help create a stronger domestic cybersecurity talent pipeline while improving operational preparedness against emerging cyber risks.

The development also reflects the growing importance of advanced cybersecurity training in modern national security frameworks, where artificial intelligence, digital forensics, and cyber intelligence are becoming central to cyber defense operations.

As cyber risks continue evolving globally, India’s investment in cybersecurity training, institutional collaboration, and advanced digital defense capabilities is expected to remain a strategic priority for strengthening long-term cyber resilience and protecting critical national infrastructure.
