Amazon is investing $1 billion to build a new division within Amazon Web Services (AWS) focused on accelerating enterprise adoption of agentic artificial intelligence through embedded engineering teams and hands-on implementation support.
The new AWS unit will deploy forward-engineered teams directly inside customer organizations for intensive 45-day engagement cycles designed to help enterprises rapidly integrate agentic AI workflows, automation systems, and AI-driven operational models.
According to AWS, the division plans to hire thousands of engineers and AI specialists who will work in dedicated pods of five to six professionals embedded within client environments. Initial customers include the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Ricoh USA, Inc.
Francessca Vasquez, Vice President of Frontier AI Engineering and Services at AWS, said the company is witnessing strong enterprise demand for practical AI implementation support.
“We have a ton of demand for customers who are asking for our help to really drive agentic AI patterns in their workflows,” Vasquez said.
She added that the initiative is focused on helping organizations achieve measurable business outcomes faster than traditional consulting or long-duration technology transformation programs.
“We want to make sure that these customers get value in faster durations than what they’ve traditionally seen in project-based activity,” she said.
The initiative reflects the growing enterprise shift toward agentic AI systems capable of autonomous decision-making, workflow orchestration, reasoning, and task execution across business operations.
Industry analysts believe major cloud providers are increasingly moving beyond infrastructure services to provide embedded AI transformation support as enterprises struggle with the complexity of deploying large-scale AI systems in real operational environments.
The move also intensifies competition among hyperscalers and enterprise AI providers as organizations worldwide accelerate investments in AI-native operations, automation, intelligent workflows, and productivity transformation initiatives.
Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing division of Amazon, is one of the world’s largest cloud and AI infrastructure providers, offering cloud platforms, AI services, data infrastructure, machine learning tools, and enterprise technology solutions to organizations globally across industries including finance, healthcare, manufacturing, media, retail, and government.
