Axis Bank has appointed Rajeev Mantri as its Chief Financial Officer, effective September 28, 2026. His appointment was approved by the bank’s board and disclosed through a regulatory filing. In the new position, Mantri will lead Axis Bank’s finance function and oversee areas including financial strategy, planning, reporting, governance, regulatory compliance and capital management. He succeeds Puneet Sharma, who resigned in June after serving as the bank’s CFO for more than six years and will remain with Axis Bank until August 31 to facilitate the transition.
Mantri brings more than 27 years of experience across banking, financial services and credit-information businesses in India and international markets. He is currently Executive President and Chief Financial Officer at Bandhan Bank, where he provides leadership to the bank’s finance function. Mantri submitted his resignation from Bandhan Bank in June, citing career growth. In accordance with the bank’s notice-period requirements, his final working day will be September 25, enabling him to join Axis Bank three days later.
Before joining Bandhan Bank, Mantri served at Citi as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for India, alongside holding responsibility as Cluster Finance Head for South Asia. He previously worked as Chief Financial Officer at TransUnion CIBIL, where his responsibilities covered finance and related strategic functions within India’s credit-information ecosystem. Mantri also held several finance leadership positions at Standard Chartered Bank across different markets and worked at Mashreq Bank as Vice President for Finance, Corporate, Investment and Private Banking. His career has provided him with experience in financial management, regulatory reporting, business planning, governance, controllership and organisational transformation.
The appointment gives Axis Bank an experienced finance leader at a time when regulatory scrutiny, capital allocation, asset quality and technology-led transformation remain important priorities across the banking sector. Mantri’s background across domestic and multinational financial institutions is expected to support the bank’s financial governance and long-term growth strategy. However, the bank has not disclosed any broader changes to the responsibilities associated with the CFO position.
Axis Bank is India’s third-largest private-sector bank and offers financial services across retail banking, corporate banking, small and medium enterprises, agriculture, wealth management and treasury operations. The bank serves customers through an extensive network of branches, digital platforms and subsidiary businesses covering areas such as investment banking, asset management, securities and financial services.
