Divyan Kavdia Joins Star Health as Chief AI and Data Officer

Divyan Kavdia has joined Star Health and Allied Insurance as Chief AI and Data Officer, strengthening the health insurer’s leadership across artificial intelligence, data engineering, analytics and digital transformation. Kavdia announced the development through a LinkedIn post on Monday, stating that he had started the new position at the company. In his new role, he is expected to lead the development and execution of Star Health’s enterprise-wide AI and data strategy and support the responsible adoption of emerging technologies across the organisation. The company has not yet issued a separate announcement detailing his complete responsibilities.

Kavdia brings more than 15 years of professional experience across artificial intelligence, business intelligence, data engineering, analytics and technology-led business transformation. Before joining Star Health, he held a senior leadership position at Axis Max Life Insurance, where he led functions covering AI Works, business intelligence and data engineering. During his association with the life insurer, he worked on the application of AI and advanced analytics across different areas of the insurance value chain, including distribution, customer onboarding, underwriting, servicing and claims. He has also contributed to initiatives involving digital transformation, customer-journey optimisation, data-led decision-making and the development of scalable AI capabilities.

His expertise includes artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, data platforms, business intelligence and automation. Kavdia has frequently written about the potential of AI agents and digital twins to reshape insurance operations by embedding intelligence directly into business processes. His appointment could support Star Health’s efforts to improve the use of data across customer engagement, risk assessment, fraud detection, claims processing and operational decision-making. In 2023, Analytics India Magazine recognised him among its “40 Under 40 Data Scientists,” highlighting his work in building and scaling AI capabilities within the insurance sector.

Star Health and Allied Insurance, headquartered in Chennai, began operations in 2006 as India’s first standalone health-insurance provider. The company offers health, personal-accident and domestic and overseas travel-insurance products to individuals, families and corporate customers. According to its official website, Star Health has more than 850 branch offices, a network of over 14,000 hospitals, more than 6.80 lakh agents and over 15,000 employees. It has covered more than 17 crore lives since inception and distributes its products through agents, banks, brokers, aggregators and digital channels.
