Mixx Technologies Acquires Sophic Silicon, Partners With Kaynes Semicon for Optical Chip Assembly in India

Bengaluru, US-based deeptech company Mixx Technologies has acquired Bengaluru-based semiconductor intellectual property design firm Sophic Silicon Technologies and entered into a multi-year manufacturing collaboration with Kaynes Semicon. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The acquisition will bring Sophic Silicon’s team and intellectual property portfolio into Mixx Technologies with immediate effect. Sophic Silicon specialises in analogue mixed-signal, wireless and photonics integrated circuits developed using advanced CMOS process nodes. Its technology will form part of Mixx’s HBxIO platform, an optical-interconnect architecture designed for large-scale artificial intelligence training and inference infrastructure.

Mixx said Sophic Silicon’s analogue mixed-signal capabilities will support the integration of electronic and photonic components required for co-packaged optics. The technology is intended to address data-transfer bottlenecks between processors within high-density AI computing clusters.

“Our vision has always been to build the complete electronic-photonic stack. Sophic Silicon brings critical analog mixed-signal expertise that reinforces HBxIO and moves us closer to deploying optical connectivity at hyperscale,” said Vivek Raghuraman, CEO of Mixx Technologies.

Sophic Silicon’s founders and core engineers will join Mixx’s product-development organisation and continue expanding the company’s research and development operations in India.

Separately, Mixx has partnered with Kaynes Semicon to establish dedicated assembly and testing capabilities for advanced optical integrated circuits at Kaynes’ semiconductor facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The collaboration will combine Mixx’s optical-chip design expertise with Kaynes Semicon’s semiconductor packaging, assembly and testing infrastructure.

The companies said the domestic manufacturing arrangement would support faster product-development cycles and closer coordination between chip design, packaging and testing teams.

“This multi-year collaboration with Mixx Technologies is a strong signal of where India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem is headed,” said Raghu Panicker, CEO of Kaynes Semicon.

Mixx Technologies develops high-performance optical-interconnect technology for AI computing infrastructure. Headquartered in San Jose, California, the company maintains research and development operations in India and Taiwan. Sophic Silicon is a beneficiary of India’s Design Linked Incentive Scheme, while Kaynes Semicon is developing an outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Sanand.
