Sampath Bank has appointed Milinda Weerasinghe as its Chief Marketing Officer. In his new role, Weerasinghe will oversee the bank’s marketing strategy, brand positioning and customer engagement initiatives.
Weerasinghe confirmed the appointment through a professional update, describing the transition as a deliberate step guided by his leadership philosophy. He will be responsible for driving a unified brand and marketing strategy across the bank’s business segments.
He brings experience spanning the banking and fast-moving consumer goods sectors, with expertise in brand strategy, category leadership, digital transformation and business growth. His background includes leadership assignments at Maliban Group, Unilever and Hindustan Unilever.
Before joining Sampath Bank, Weerasinghe served as Group Head of Marketing at Maliban Group, where he was involved in developing the organisation’s marketing direction and managing its brand portfolio. His experience across consumer-focused organisations has covered brand management, category development, market expansion and customer strategy.
Weerasinghe said his move to Sampath Bank represents an opportunity to apply his experience to the financial-services industry while supporting the institution’s brand and customer-focused growth priorities.
His appointment comes as banks increasingly integrate customer data, digital channels and personalised engagement into their marketing strategies. These capabilities are becoming important for financial institutions seeking to strengthen customer relationships and improve the adoption of digital banking services.
Sampath Bank is a Sri Lanka-based commercial bank offering personal banking, corporate banking, trade finance, treasury and digital financial services. The bank operates through a nationwide branch and digital-service network and has introduced several technology-led banking products for retail and business customers.
