Activate Invests in Sarvam’s Ongoing $300 Million Series B Round

Bengaluru, Early-stage artificial intelligence venture fund Activate has invested in Bengaluru-based AI startup Sarvam as part of the company’s ongoing $300 million Series B funding round. The financial terms of Activate’s investment were not disclosed.

The investment follows Sarvam’s first Series B close in June 2026, when the company raised $234 million at a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion. HCLTech participated as the lead strategic investor with a $150 million commitment, alongside Bessemer Venture Partners. Existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners also participated.

Activate said it views artificial intelligence as a major technology shift and believes India has an opportunity to develop globally competitive AI capabilities. The fund invests in early-stage AI companies building models, infrastructure and applications.

Sarvam plans to use the Series B capital to advance its foundation-model research, expand access to computing infrastructure and develop its enterprise and government-focused AI offerings. The company is researching its next frontier model for agentic AI, coding and cybersecurity applications.

The startup develops AI infrastructure, foundation models and applications designed for Indian languages and use cases. Its technology portfolio includes Sarvam 30B and Sarvam 105B language models, speech models, document-processing technology and an inference platform for developers and enterprises.

Sarvam said its conversational AI platform handles more than two million interactions daily, while its inference infrastructure processes around 10 million API calls per day. Its speech models transcribe more than 500,000 hours of audio each month, and its vision technology has been used to digitise over 35 million pages.

The company’s products are being deployed across banking, insurance, government technology and defence. Its multilingual voice platform has also been used for projects involving farmers and insurance policyholders.

Founded by Pratyush Kumar and Vivek Raghavan, Sarvam develops sovereign AI technology across model training, inference infrastructure and enterprise deployment. It works with developers, companies and government organisations to build and deploy AI applications within India.
