Bengaluru, AI-powered equity research platform Pinegap has raised $8 million in a Series A funding round led by Stellaris Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Inventus, Silicon Valley Quad (SVQ) and DeVC. The company plans to use the fresh capital to expand its presence among institutional investors, particularly in the United States.
The funding will be deployed to strengthen Pinegap’s go-to-market and sales capabilities, expand its engineering team and build an in-house team of former equity research analysts. The company expects the combination of financial domain expertise and engineering capabilities to support the development and customisation of its AI-powered research workflows for institutional clients.
Pinegap develops AI agents designed to automate recurring equity research tasks for institutional buy-side investors, including hedge funds, long-only mutual funds and registered investment advisers (RIAs). Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, its platform builds customised agents around an investment firm’s research process, proprietary data, investment thesis and preferred reporting formats.
The platform can automate workflows including earnings previews, post-earnings analysis, company primers, news summaries and investment thesis tracking. Research outputs can be generated according to predefined schedules or triggered by market events, allowing analysts to reduce time spent on repetitive information gathering and analysis.
Pinegap said it has already deployed more than 1,000 AI agents across over 100 institutional clients, which collectively generate upwards of 50,000 research reports every month. The company’s client base includes institutional investment firms operating across long-short strategies, long-only investing and registered investment advisory services.
The investment comes amid increasing adoption of generative AI and agentic technologies across financial services, where investment firms are exploring automation to process large volumes of market data, corporate disclosures and financial information while allowing analysts to focus on investment judgement and decision-making.
Founded in 2024 by Ankit Varmani and Deepak Sharma, Pinegap is an AI-powered equity research technology company serving institutional investors. Varmani brings more than 15 years of equity research experience, including roles at JPMorgan and a long-short hedge fund, while Sharma brings an engineering and technology background. The company develops customised AI agents aimed at automating institutional research workflows and supporting investment teams with structured, proactive research outputs.
