Macquarie Cloud Services signs Microsoft Azure Datacentre Optimisation agreement

Macquarie Cloud Services, part of Macquarie Technology Group (ASX: MAQ), today announced it has signed a Microsoft Datacentre Optimisation (DCO) agreement to accelerate Microsoft Azure consumption over three years.

The agreement builds on Macquarie Cloud Services’ work with Microsoft to support Australian organisations on their cloud transformation journeys, helping organisations migrate and modernise infrastructure, improve efficiency, and innovate faster with Azure.

Microsoft DCO is a global initiative designed to help partners accelerate their Azure practices and support customers on hybrid cloud transformation journeys. The global tech giant is essentially forecasting Macquarie Cloud Services’ Azure consumption spend will reach up to $278 million over the next three years based on its roadmap and success to date. As one of the largest DCO agreements signed in the region, it reflects Macquarie’s position as Microsoft’s leading Australian cloud service provider (CSP) in driving customer workload migration under the DCO program.

Macquarie Cloud Services’ current and future Azure expansion comes as Australia’s public cloud market is expected to reach circa A$220 billion (US$155.6 billion) by 2034, driven by AI, cybersecurity uplift, systems modernisation, and key policy drivers and frameworks affecting major industries such as APRA CPS 230 and 234, the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act, and Essential Eight (E8) maturity.

“Macquarie Cloud Services continues to demonstrate strong leadership in helping Australian organisations modernise with Microsoft Azure,” said Vincent Texcier, Global Datacentre Optimisation (DCO) Centre of Excellence, Microsoft. “Through this agreement, Macquarie Cloud Services can continue helping customers migrate and modernise infrastructure, strengthen their cloud foundations, and prepare for future data and AI opportunities.”

This is the third DCO agreement Macquarie Cloud Services has signed and follows six years of the Australian Azure specialist being awarded Expert MSP status by Microsoft. Macquarie has consistently delivered average cloud cost savings of 26 per cent and reduced operational risk for thousands of Australian organisations. Macquarie Cloud Services also uniquely does not charge for professional services or consulting, meaning migration or transformation costs are included in the managed services fee, reducing the total cloud cost and risk for Australian businesses.

“By combining our capabilities with the DCO framework, we are enabling customers to move to Azure at scale, while building a foundation for data, AI, and next-generation applications that will ultimately drive the Australian economy,” said Naran McClung, Executive Head of Azure at Macquarie Cloud Services.

“Increasingly, our growth is being driven by customers expanding into new workloads and more sophisticated capabilities as their cloud maturity develops, as well as organisations moving to Azure for the first time. This agreement reflects continued confidence in our Azure capability, experience, and customer outcomes. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Microsoft as it continues its own significant investment into Australia.”
