Akasa Air has appointed Abhishek Gupta as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), bringing more than two decades of experience in IT architecture, technology operations and digital strategy to the airline.
Gupta joins Akasa Air after serving as Corporate Head of IT at Dish TV. He joined Dish TV in 2015 as Vice President of IT and was elevated to Corporate Head of IT in 2019. During his tenure, he was involved in IT modernisation, cloud adoption and digital transformation initiatives, along with the deployment of artificial intelligence and technology infrastructure to support the company’s digital operations.
The appointment was highlighted by CIOandLeader in a recent LinkedIn update, while current reporting also confirms Gupta’s move to Akasa Air following his exit from Dish TV. His departure from Dish TV was effective August 31, 2026.
At Akasa Air, Gupta will take charge of the airline’s information technology function. His experience across enterprise technology, cloud systems and digital transformation comes as the airline continues to expand its operations and technology-led services.
Gupta’s career spans more than 20 years across technology architecture, IT operations and digital strategy. Before joining Dish TV, he worked with Ericsson, where he served as Practice Lead for nearly three years.
Earlier, Gupta was associated with Orange Business Services, where he served as Head of Corporate IT for the India division. His career across these organisations has given him experience in technology management, enterprise IT infrastructure and digital transformation.
During his time at Dish TV, Gupta worked on modernising the company’s technology environment and supporting its shift towards cloud-based systems. His responsibilities also included technology infrastructure and the deployment of AI capabilities as part of the company’s digital operations.
His move to Akasa Air marks a transition from the media and broadcasting sector to aviation, where technology plays a role across areas such as airline operations, customer services, digital platforms and enterprise systems.
Akasa Air launched its first commercial flight on August 7, 2022, and has since expanded its domestic and international network. The airline describes itself as a technology-led carrier and has been expanding its fleet and operations as it builds its presence in the Indian aviation market.
The airline has also been investing in technology and operational capabilities as part of its growth. Its digital systems support areas including customer interaction, flight operations and other business functions.
Gupta’s background in IT modernisation, cloud adoption and digital transformation will add to the airline’s technology leadership as it continues to scale. His experience also includes working on enterprise technology infrastructure and digital initiatives across large organisations.
Gupta holds an engineering degree from Delhi College of Engineering and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
His appointment adds a senior technology leader to Akasa Air’s management team at a time when the airline is expanding both its network and technology infrastructure. As CIO, Gupta will lead the information technology function and bring his experience in enterprise systems, cloud, digital transformation and technology strategy to the airline.
