Faysal Bank Limited has appointed Muhammad Zohair Imtiaz as Head – Information Security Governance & Compliance, bringing nearly two decades of experience across enterprise systems, infrastructure security, IT risk, information security, governance and compliance in Pakistan’s banking and technology sectors.
Imtiaz brings a career that has progressed from technology operations and network support into senior information-security governance and compliance responsibilities. His experience includes enterprise systems, infrastructure security, IT risk management, security assessments, regulatory requirements and information-security controls.
He began his professional career in technology operations and network support before moving into enterprise systems at Habib Bank Limited (HBL). During this phase of his career, he was involved in large-scale infrastructure and systems initiatives, including Active Directory environments and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager deployment across a significant user base.
He later moved into banking information security and IT risk with Bank Alfalah Limited, where he served as Risk Analyst – IT Security. His responsibilities included conducting IT risk reviews, assessing the security of new and legacy systems, monitoring access rights, developing security policies and investigating information-security incidents.
Imtiaz subsequently returned to HBL, where he took on the role of Manager – Infrastructure Security. His responsibilities during this stage of his career focused on infrastructure security and the protection of technology environments.
He later joined United Bank Limited (UBL) as Manager – Information Security, further expanding his experience in information-security management within the banking sector.
Imtiaz then spent more than six years with Habib Bank AG Zurich, where he served as Head – Information Security Governance & Compliance. In the role, he worked across security controls, regulatory requirements and information-security governance.
His career has therefore covered several areas of technology and security, beginning with hands-on systems and infrastructure responsibilities before moving towards information-security risk, governance and compliance. This progression has given him experience across both technical security environments and the governance frameworks used to manage information-security risks in financial institutions.
In his new role at Faysal Bank, Imtiaz will lead the Information Security Governance & Compliance function. The role is closely connected with maintaining security controls, governance processes and compliance requirements across the bank’s information-technology environment.
Faysal Bank is a Pakistani Islamic bank that provides retail, corporate, investment and other banking services. The bank has been expanding its digital banking capabilities as part of its broader technology and customer-service strategy.
For financial institutions, information-security governance and compliance cover areas such as security policies, control frameworks, risk assessment, regulatory requirements, access management and monitoring of technology environments. These functions support the protection of banking information and technology assets.
Imtiaz’s experience across these areas provides continuity with the requirements of his new position. His earlier responsibilities in IT risk, infrastructure security, information-security management and governance have given him exposure to different aspects of security within banking environments.
Academically, Imtiaz holds a Master of Science in Information Technology with a specialisation in Networks & Communications and an MBA in Management & Supply Chain Management from Hamdard University. His professional development has also included certifications and training in information security, ethical hacking, ISO 27001 and related technology disciplines.
His appointment at Faysal Bank marks the latest step in a career that has moved from enterprise technology and infrastructure towards information-security governance and compliance. He will now bring this experience to the bank’s information-security function as Head – Information Security Governance & Compliance.
