Meta has unveiled a small AI device called Muse Charm, designed to give users another way to interact with its personal AI agent, Muse. CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the device during Meta’s annual Connect event on September 23 as a surprise “one more thing” announcement.
The palm-sized device is designed to be carried in a pocket or attached to a keychain. It features a small screen that displays a digital avatar representing Muse. Meta’s internal name for the avatar is Jolly.
Users can interact with Muse Charm by tapping a fingerprint sensor on the device and then speaking to the AI agent. This allows users to access Muse without having to unlock a smartphone or open an application. Zuckerberg described the device as a way to keep the Muse experience readily available when users are not wearing Meta’s AI-enabled glasses.
Muse Charm is built around Meta’s recently introduced Muse personal AI agent. Meta launched Muse in September as an AI system designed to do more than answer questions, including taking actions on behalf of users. The agent can handle tasks such as sending emails and booking travel, while also working across applications through its dedicated secure computing environment.
Meta said Muse runs on a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, which houses the AI agent and a user’s data. The system includes a separate Sentinel agent that controls whether Muse can access the internet and requests user permission when required.
The Muse Charm itself is not yet ready for commercial shipment. Zuckerberg said Meta still needs to finalise the device’s internal components and expects it to be ready to ship during the holiday period in December.
The device gives Meta another hardware format for distributing Muse beyond smartphones and its AI glasses. Unlike Meta’s glasses, Muse Charm is focused on providing a portable way to communicate with the AI agent rather than presenting information through a camera-enabled wearable.
Meta’s announcement comes as the company expands its broader push around personal AI agents and AI-powered hardware. At the same Connect event, Meta also outlined additional capabilities for Muse, including its integration with Meta’s hardware ecosystem.
With Muse Charm, Meta is combining its personal AI assistant with a small, portable device that users can keep nearby and interact with through voice. The company has yet to disclose the device’s price or detailed hardware specifications, while commercial availability is expected around December.
