Google Expands Gemini Portfolio with Faster, Lower-Cost AI Models

Mountain View, Google has expanded its generative artificial intelligence portfolio with the introduction of Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber. The models are designed to provide faster and more cost-efficient AI capabilities for enterprise applications, developer workflows and cybersecurity operations.

Gemini 3.6 Flash is positioned as the company’s new workhorse model for coding, knowledge-based tasks and multimodal applications. Google said the model uses 17% fewer output tokens than Gemini 3.5 Flash on one independent performance index. It also requires fewer reasoning steps and tool calls when completing multi-stage workflows.

The model is priced at $1.50 per million input tokens and $7.50 per million output tokens. It includes additional safeguards against misuse involving chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, as well as cyber-offensive activities.

Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite is intended for high-volume applications requiring low latency, including agentic search, document processing, translation and data analysis. The model can generate approximately 350 output tokens per second and is priced at $0.30 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens.

The third model, Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, has been developed specifically to identify, validate and repair software vulnerabilities. It operates with CodeMender, an AI-based code-security system that coordinates multiple specialised agents to produce consolidated vulnerability reports. Due to the technology’s potential for misuse, access will initially be limited to governments and trusted partners through a controlled pilot programme.

Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite are available through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Android Studio and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. Both models are also accessible through the Gemini application, while Flash-Lite is being introduced within Google Search.

The releases could benefit Indian technology companies, startups and global capability centres seeking to deploy AI agents without incurring the operating costs associated with larger models. The cybersecurity model may also have future relevance for public-sector agencies and enterprises protecting large software environments.

Google’s flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro model, originally expected in June, remains under partner testing. The company said it would make the model broadly available when it is ready. Training has also started for the next-generation Gemini 4 model family.
