NVIDIA Announces £11 Billion Investment to Build U.K.’s Largest AI Infrastructure

In a move set to redefine the United Kingdom’s role in the global AI landscape, NVIDIA has announced a record £11 billion investment to accelerate the country’s AI industrial revolution. Partnering with CoreWeave, Microsoft, and Nscale, the initiative will deliver the U.K.’s largest-ever AI infrastructure rollout, cementing its position as a hub for cutting-edge computing and sovereign AI development.

By 2026, the program will see the deployment of 120,000 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs across U.K. data centers. This vast computing power will support groundbreaking projects such as OpenAI’s Stargate U.K. and further the nation’s ambition of building sovereign AI capabilities at scale.

As part of the initiative, Nscale will expand globally with 300,000 Grace Blackwell GPUs, of which 60,000 will be deployed in the U.K., reinforcing its standing as a global leader in AI infrastructure. Microsoft is also set to construct the nation’s most powerful supercomputer at its Loughton facility, powered by 24,000 Blackwell GPUs on Azure. Meanwhile, CoreWeave will establish a renewable energy-driven data center in Scotland, contributing to sustainable AI growth.

Beyond scaling infrastructure, NVIDIA is deepening its efforts in quantum computing, forging collaborations with Oxford Quantum Circuits, SEEQC, and the University of Edinburgh. These partnerships will integrate NVIDIA GPUs with quantum processors, pushing the frontier of hybrid computing. The company is also teaming up with techUK, Quanser, and QA to bolster developer talent, robotics innovation, and AI adoption through initiatives such as the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute and DGX Cloud access.

The announcement has drawn praise from government and industry leaders. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the initiative as “a decisive step toward making the U.K. a world leader in AI, driving jobs, investment, and public service transformation.” Echoing this optimism, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang called the project “the big bang of intelligence,” positioning the U.K. to thrive in the AI-powered economy of the future.

This historic investment signals a turning point in the U.K.’s digital strategy, blending world-class infrastructure, sustainable energy, and advanced talent development to build a resilient AI ecosystem.
