Indian artificial intelligence startup Sarvam AI is in advanced discussions to raise between $320 million and $350 million in a new funding round, as it looks to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing global AI landscape. The proposed deal could value the Bengaluru-based company at around $1.5 billion, reflecting strong investor confidence in India’s emerging AI ecosystem.
The funding round is expected to attract participation from major global technology players, including Nvidia and Amazon, along with prominent venture capital firms such as Bessemer Venture Partners and Prosperity7 Ventures. Existing investors like Peak XV Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Khosla Ventures are also likely to join the round, signaling continued support from both domestic and international backers.
Founded in 2023, Sarvam AI focuses on building large language models and AI solutions tailored for Indian languages and local use cases. The company has positioned itself as a key player in India’s push toward “sovereign AI,” aiming to reduce dependence on foreign technologies by developing homegrown capabilities that cater to the country’s linguistic diversity.
A significant factor driving investor interest is Sarvam AI’s role in India’s broader AI strategy, particularly under the IndiaAI Mission. The company has received substantial support in the form of high-performance computing resources, including access to Nvidia H100 GPUs, which are critical for training large-scale AI models. These backing highlights its strategic importance in building domestic AI infrastructure.
The potential fundraising also reflects a larger global trend where countries are investing heavily in local AI capabilities to compete with dominant players in the United States and China. For investors like Nvidia and Amazon, supporting Sarvam AI not only strengthens their presence in India but also expands demand for their hardware and cloud services. If completed, the deal could become one of the largest funding rounds for an Indian AI startup, reinforcing the country’s growing influence in the global artificial intelligence race.
