Sumit Sharma Joins Accenture as Managing Director, Data & AI

Accenture has appointed Sumit Sharma as Managing Director, Data & AI, strengthening its leadership capabilities as the professional services company helps enterprises move from experimental artificial-intelligence projects to scalable, outcome-oriented transformation programmes. Based in Noida, Sharma brings more than two decades of experience spanning data management, analytics, artificial intelligence, enterprise platforms and technology-led business transformation.

In his new position, Sharma will work with Accenture’s clients and internal teams to advance data and AI transformation initiatives. His focus will include establishing reliable enterprise data foundations, scaling generative and traditional AI solutions, embedding responsible-AI practices and connecting technology investments with measurable business results. Announcing his move, Sharma said his priority remains helping organisations translate their AI ambitions into business outcomes through “strong data foundations, responsible AI, and scalable execution.”

Before joining Accenture, Sharma served as Vice President and Global Head of Data & AI Delivery at Coforge. In that position, he led globally distributed delivery teams and oversaw enterprise Data and AI portfolios across multiple markets. His work involved modernising data estates, developing AI-led capabilities and helping clients move technology programmes from strategic planning into enterprise-grade implementation. He also contributed to building and scaling Data and AI practices, combining delivery governance with industry and technology expertise.

Earlier, Sharma held a senior leadership position at Sopra Steria as Head of Data and Analytics for India. He led teams working on modern data platforms, analytics, data governance and artificial intelligence solutions. His work at the company included promoting practical applications of AI and strengthening the connection between data strategy and business transformation. Sharma’s professional profile also reflects an academic association with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

The appointment comes as Accenture continues to expand its AI capabilities and position data readiness, responsible deployment and workforce transformation as essential components of enterprise reinvention. The company previously announced a $3 billion investment over three years in its Data & AI practice, together with plans to double its AI-focused workforce to 80,000 through recruitment, acquisitions and training.

From an industry perspective, Sharma’s appointment reflects the growing demand for leaders who can bridge the gap between AI experimentation and operational execution. Enterprises increasingly need leaders capable of combining modern data architecture, governance, delivery discipline and responsible-AI controls—not simply introducing isolated AI tools.

Accenture is a global professional services company that works with businesses, governments and other organisations across strategy, consulting, technology, operations and Industry X. Its Data & AI practice supports clients in developing data foundations and deploying AI solutions designed to improve productivity, growth and organisational performance.
