Kshema General Insurance has elevated Sunil Mandava to the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO). The move comes after more than three years of growth with the company.
Sunil joined Kshema in August 2023 as Chief Architect, where he set up the technical base for the insurer. In February 2025, he was promoted to Head of Engineering & Infrastructure. Now, in November 2026, he takes charge of the entire technology function.
Over the years, Sunil built a tech team of more than 200 people from scratch. The team covers engineering, testing, DevOps, infrastructure, security, AI and data, and project management. It supports five lines of business: Agri, Motor, Health, Fire and Surety.
Under his leadership, the core platform grew from a small proof of concept to over 2 million monthly users. It stayed available even when the user base grew 500% in a single year. He also built cybersecurity from the ground up, in line with IRDAI guidelines and the DPDP Act 2023.
Sunil set up an AI Governance Forum to make sure AI is used safely and responsibly. AI is already at work at Kshema, helping detect fraud in Agri claims through satellite and remote-sensing data, and helping developers work faster. He also led the selection of a new policy administration system by comparing six vendors, and the CEO and board approved his recommendation. His work on modern Agile and DevSecOps practices cut development time by 25%.
As CIO, Sunil manages a technology budget of about $5 million and works alongside the heads of Marketing, Growth, Product, Underwriting, Compliance and Actuarial. He also reports to board committees on technology, security and AI.
Before Kshema, Sunil spent 25 years in technology at Citigroup, The Hartford, Fair Isaac, CoreLogic, Bank of America, FINRA and Salesforce.
