In a bold step toward accelerating its AI and robotics ambitions, Zoho Corporation has acquired Kochi-based startup ASIMOV Robotics, a pioneer in healthcare and industrial automation. The announcement was made on July 2, coinciding with the inauguration of Zoho’s new R&D campus in Kottarakkara, Kerala.
Founded by Jayakrishnan T, ASIMOV Robotics gained national attention for deploying humanoid robots during the COVID-19 crisis. The startup’s expertise in advanced robotics aligns with Zoho’s vision of investing in deep-tech innovation.
“This campus will strengthen our R&D capabilities, starting with AI and robotics,” said Shailesh Davey, Co-founder and CEO of Zoho Corp. He emphasized the company’s long-term goal of building self-reliant technology ecosystems in India.
The Kottarakkara campus also unveiled a deep-tech product studio, launched in partnership with the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM). This initiative will enable startups and researchers to collaborate on cutting-edge technologies in a real-world environment. Zoho will act as the anchor industry partner, offering mentorship and access to live projects.
Additionally, Zoho announced new R&D partnerships with IIT-Bombay, Boson Motors India, Vipus Advanced Materials, and Zentron Labs, focusing on clean energy, semiconductor innovation, and healthcare technology.
The event was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, with Zoho Co-founder Sridhar Vembu and US CEO Tony Thomas in attendance — underscoring Zoho’s push for rural-led innovation and the creation of world-class IP from India’s grassroots.
