Eyewear major Lenskart has made a strategic investment in Mumbai-based deeptech startup Ajna Lens, which specializes in building AI-powered extended reality (XR) glasses. The deal marks a significant step in Lenskart’s long-term vision to create smart eyewear products, although the financial details of the investment remain undisclosed.
Founded in 2014, Ajna Lens has developed cutting-edge hardware and software platforms combining spatial computing, AI vision, and XR technologies. The company gained international recognition after winning the CES Innovation Award in 2023 for its mixed-reality headset AjnaXR. Its solutions cater to sectors such as enterprise, education, and defense, offering tools that seamlessly blend physical and digital environments.
“This investment marks the next chapter in our Smart Glass journey, which began with the launch of Phonic, our audio glasses, in December 2024,” said Peyush Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Lenskart. “As the smart glasses category scales rapidly, our partnership with Ajna Lens strategically positions us to accelerate product innovation in this space.”
Through the partnership, Lenskart plans to combine its established strengths in frame design, lens engineering, and large-scale distribution with Ajna’s expertise in immersive technology. The goal is to co-develop smart glasses that are technologically advanced, yet stylish and accessible to everyday users.
The investment comes at a critical juncture for Lenskart, which recently transitioned into a public limited company—a preparatory step towards its highly anticipated IPO. The Gurugram-based company is reportedly targeting a $1 billion public offering at a valuation of $10 billion, double the valuation it achieved during its previous secondary funding round in 2023. That round included marquee investors such as Temasek and Fidelity Investments.
With over 2,500 retail outlets across India and Southeast Asia and a strong online presence, Lenskart manufactures 25 million frames and 30 to 40 million lenses annually. Its investment in Ajna Lens signals a bold push into the future of wearable technology, positioning itself at the intersection of eyewear, AI, and immersive computing.
