Anthropic has decided not to proceed with its potential acquisition of AI infrastructure startup Decart AI, ending discussions over a deal that Bloomberg News had previously reported could be worth about $6 billion. The development was first reported by Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to the report, Anthropic explored the acquisition as part of efforts to strengthen its capabilities and support the rapidly growing demand for its artificial intelligence services. However, after conducting due diligence on Decart, Anthropic ultimately decided not to pursue the transaction.
The discussions had attracted attention because of Decart’s position in AI infrastructure and optimisation. The startup, which is backed by Nvidia, develops technology aimed at improving the infrastructure and efficiency required to run AI systems. Its products include Lucy, an AI-powered live-video editing model, and Oasis, a simulation platform.
The potential acquisition was previously reported at a value of approximately $6 billion. That figure relates to the proposed deal discussed in earlier reporting and should not be interpreted as a completed transaction or a confirmed valuation resulting from an acquisition. Anthropic has now walked away from the proposed deal following its due-diligence process.
Despite ending the acquisition discussions, Anthropic and Decart could still explore other forms of collaboration, according to the Bloomberg report cited by Reuters. Neither company immediately responded to Reuters’ requests for comment outside business hours, and Reuters said it could not independently verify Bloomberg’s report at the time.
The development comes as Anthropic continues to expand its infrastructure and technology capabilities to meet increasing demand for its Claude AI products. Reuters reported last month that Anthropic had been in talks to acquire Nvidia-backed Decart as part of a broader search for acquisitions that could help the company handle rising demand ahead of a planned public listing.
Anthropic is also preparing for an initial public offering. Reuters reported that the company is expected to begin marketing the offering in mid-October at the earliest, with a potential listing targeted before the U.S. midterm elections in November. The company has been making significant preparations as it moves toward a possible public-market debut.
For Decart, the end of the acquisition discussions does not necessarily close the door on a relationship with Anthropic. The two companies may still pursue other forms of cooperation, while Decart continues developing its AI infrastructure and optimisation technologies.
The decision therefore marks the end of the reported acquisition pursuit rather than the end of discussions between the two companies. With Anthropic continuing to prepare for its potential IPO and invest in infrastructure to meet demand, the company remains active in evaluating ways to expand its capabilities and technology base.
