Adani Group Plans ₹1.8 Lakh Crore Defence Push, Targets Autonomous Warfare Technologies

New Delhi: Adani Group is preparing a major expansion of its defence manufacturing footprint, with plans to invest ₹1.8 lakh crore in the sector next year. The investment will be directed toward building capabilities in unmanned and autonomous systems, advanced guided weapons, and next-generation platforms designed for the evolving demands of modern warfare.

According to a PTI report, defence equipment developed by the group has already been deployed in active missions, including Operation Sindoor in May 2025.

The proposed investment will be channelled through Adani Defence & Aerospace, which plans to scale up work in AI-enabled multi-domain operations, sensors and electronics, and large-scale Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) training infrastructure in the coming year.

Equipment Deployed in Active Military Operations

Adani Defence has emerged as one of India’s largest integrated private-sector defence manufacturers. In 2025, multiple platforms developed by the company were used during Operation Sindoor, underlining its growing role in India’s defence ecosystem.

Among key deployments:

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: The company’s Drishti 10 UAVs were inducted into both the Indian Navy and the Indian Army in 2025. These platforms are designed for long-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
  • Counter-Drone Systems: Adani Defence’s counter-drone solutions have successfully cleared trials conducted by the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force.
  • Guided Weapons: The company’s Agniveer loitering munitions have demonstrated operational capability in electronic warfare scenarios. In addition, the ARKA MANPADS, a shoulder-fired missile system, has been developed for deployment across all three armed forces.

Focus on Autonomous Warfare Systems

Autonomous systems designed to operate across air, sea, and land with minimal human intervention are a central pillar of Adani Defence’s strategy. These systems rely on advanced sensors, software platforms, and secure communication networks to execute missions while reducing risk to personnel.

  • Air: Drones support reconnaissance, surveillance, communication relay, and precision operations, often remaining airborne for extended durations.
  • Sea: Unmanned vessels are used for maritime surveillance, underwater combat roles, and mine-countermeasure operations.
  • Land: Autonomous and semi-autonomous ground vehicles assist with logistics, reconnaissance, explosive ordnance disposal, and border patrol duties.

The company plans to further strengthen its portfolio in unmanned platforms and advanced guided weapons as part of its long-term roadmap.

Ambition to Scale Market Presence

Looking ahead, the Adani Group aims to significantly expand its drone and autonomous systems capabilities across air, land, and maritime domains by 2026. The group has set a target of capturing 25% of India’s private defence manufacturing market, positioning itself as a key contributor to the country’s indigenous defence and future-warfare capabilities.
