Kevin Mandia, the founder of cybersecurity company Mandiant, has secured $190 million in funding for a new startup focused on developing autonomous AI agents designed to strengthen cybersecurity defenses. The new venture marks Mandia’s return to the startup ecosystem after Google acquired Mandiant for $5.4 billion in 2022.
The startup, reportedly named Armadin, aims to build AI-powered security systems capable of operating autonomously to detect and respond to cyber threats. These systems will use AI agents that can analyze security data, identify risks, and take action against attacks without requiring constant human intervention.
The funding round combines seed and Series A investments and represents one of the largest early-stage raises for a cybersecurity startup focused on AI-driven security technology. The investment signals strong investor confidence in solutions designed to defend organizations against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, especially as artificial intelligence becomes more widely adopted in enterprise environments.
Mandia is widely known in the cybersecurity industry for founding Mandiant in 2004, which became a major incident response and threat intelligence firm. Over the years, the company gained global recognition for investigating high-profile cyberattacks and security breaches before eventually becoming part of Google Cloud after its acquisition.
With the rapid rise of autonomous AI systems across businesses, cybersecurity experts are increasingly concerned about new types of threats created by AI-powered attacks. Mandia’s new venture aims to address this emerging challenge by building security platforms specifically designed to monitor and defend against autonomous digital agents and AI-driven cyber threats.
The large funding round highlights growing investor interest in the AI security sector, as organizations seek advanced solutions to manage the risks associated with the next generation of AI-powered technologies.
