Rajat Seth has taken on a new leadership role at Baker Hughes as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the company’s Oilfield Services and Equipment (OFSE) business segment. Seth announced the move as he begins a new chapter in his 23rd year with Baker Hughes, where he has held senior digital technology and information leadership responsibilities.
In his announcement, Seth said he was excited to continue his journey with Baker Hughes in the new role and described the opportunity as a chance to work alongside the OFSE business and leadership team as well as its digital technology organisation. He said the position gives him an opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to Baker Hughes’ mission of “Rewriting the Energy Equation™” and contribute to the role the company plays in strengthening the global energy landscape.
Seth brings extensive experience in digital technology and information leadership to the position. His public professional profile identifies him as a senior digital technology executive with experience in leading business transformation. Before taking on the latest OFSE CIO responsibility, he served as Vice President and Division Chief Information Officer at Baker Hughes. Public professional records also show that he has held senior technology and programme management positions within Baker Hughes and its predecessor GE businesses.
His career with the organisation has included leadership across information technology, programme management and digital technology. Earlier in his career, Seth worked as Chief Information Officer for Valve Technologies at GE and held senior programme management and technology roles. He began his professional career as a software engineer at Capgemini before moving into GE’s ASPIRE Digital Technology Leadership Program.
Seth’s leadership within Baker Hughes has also included involvement in digital technology and talent development initiatives. A recent Baker Hughes-related leadership programme highlighted him as Vice President and Division Chief Information Officer, while his professional activities have included engagement with emerging technology talent and the company’s digital technology programmes in India.
Reflecting on his long association with Baker Hughes, Seth said that stepping into the new role felt somewhat like “renewing vows,” while retaining the same anticipation and energy he experienced when he first joined the company. His latest move therefore represents a continuation of a long career within the organisation rather than a transition to a new employer.
Seth also acknowledged the personal and professional support that has helped shape his career. He expressed gratitude to his spouse, Pooja, and their immediate families, as well as to his sponsors, mentors and colleagues for their support, trust and collaboration over the years.
Based in Mumbai, Seth said he was beginning his first week in the new role with a visit to Baker Hughes’ headquarters in Houston. As CIO for the OFSE business segment, his new responsibility places him at the intersection of digital technology and one of Baker Hughes’ key business areas, as the company continues to focus on technology and digital capabilities across the global energy landscape.
