Adidas has begun reducing roles within its India Technology organisation, with employees at its Gurugram technology hub reportedly affected by the restructuring. The development was communicated to employees during a town hall on September 15, 2026, according to reports. Adidas has confirmed that it is reducing roles but said the overall impact is less than 20% of its India Technology organisation.
Reports initially indicated that around 350 or more employees could be affected at the Gurugram hub, which has a workforce of roughly 700. The reported roles include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. However, the 350-plus figure has not been confirmed by Adidas. The company has instead stated that the reduction represents less than 20% of its India Technology organisation.
In a statement, Adidas said the decision was part of its efforts to align its operating model with the changing requirements of the business. The company said the restructuring is intended to simplify parts of the organisation, strengthen critical capabilities and position Adidas for long-term growth in a rapidly changing business and technology environment.
The company also said that it continues to invest in strategic capabilities and has several open roles across the organisation. Adidas has encouraged employees affected by the changes to explore available opportunities as it develops the skills and expertise it considers necessary for its future operations.
Employees Reportedly Divided Into Two Groups
According to The Economic Times, the affected employees have been divided into two groups. One group received exit letters on September 15, when the restructuring was communicated. Employees in the second group have reportedly been asked to continue until December 15.
The second group is expected to complete handovers to colleagues working at other Adidas technology hubs while also having an opportunity to seek other roles within the company. Employees who do not secure another position within Adidas by December 15 have reportedly been told that the date would be their last working day.
Details regarding the severance package, notice pay or redeployment assistance for the affected employees have not been confirmed publicly.
Gurugram Remains a Key Technology Location
Adidas’ Gurugram office houses both its local marketing organisation and one of the company’s Global Engineering Tech Hubs. The sportswear company also operates a technology hub in Chennai, and its broader India operations have expanded in recent years. Adidas opened a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.
The reported restructuring therefore affects Adidas’ technology operations in India rather than indicating a withdrawal from the country’s technology presence. The company has said it will continue investing in strategic capabilities and that roles remain open across its organisation.
