Alipay launches AI-powered payment solutions to enable autonomous business transactions

Chinese fintech giant Alipay has introduced new AI-driven payment capabilities designed to support businesses and accelerate the shift toward automated, agent-based commerce. The launch allows artificial intelligence agents to complete purchases and transactions on behalf of users, marking a major step toward fully autonomous digital payments.

The new system builds on Alipay’s existing AI Pay platform, first introduced in 2025, which enables users to make payments through conversational commands rather than traditional app-based interactions. With the latest update, businesses can integrate payment functionality directly into AI agents, allowing tasks such as booking services, ordering products, and completing payments to happen seamlessly within a single workflow.

For enterprises, the development opens new opportunities to automate customer journeys and reduce friction in digital transactions. Instead of navigating multiple apps or checkout pages, users can simply instruct an AI assistant to perform an action, while the system handles search, selection, and payment in the background. This model is part of the emerging concept of “agentic commerce,” where AI systems independently execute end-to-end transactions.

Security remains a key focus in the rollout, with Alipay implementing multi-layer authentication and real-time risk monitoring to ensure safe transactions. Each payment requires user authorization, and built-in safeguards aim to prevent fraud while maintaining ease of use. This balance between automation and control is critical as financial transactions increasingly shift toward AI-driven environments.

The launch reflects a broader trend in the fintech industry, where companies are integrating AI into core financial services to enhance efficiency and user experience. By enabling businesses to adopt AI-powered payment systems, Alipay is positioning itself at the forefront of the transition toward intelligent, automated commerce, where transactions are no longer user-driven but handled seamlessly by digital agents.
